Description

Native to Japan, this deciduous conifer turns a beautiful yellow in fall. It grows in a conical shape and has bright green needles, with two bands of white on the underside, that turn into a golden-yellow in the autumn. The needles are clustered in a fan shape on little branchlets and those branchlets are attached to horizontal branches. The Japanese larch is fast growing and prefers a moist, but well drained soil. It produces cones that are 1 – 1 1/2″ long. The Japanese larch support birds and some kinds of moths. It will tolerate road salts and is a good choice for city plantings, including along roadsides.
