Description
Arrowwood plants grow as a multi-stemmed shrub that is upright and rounded. It generally stays the same width as height and usually grow up to 10′ tall, sometimes 15′ in the best growing conditions. It has beautiful, glossy green leaves and in the spring, it has showy white flowers. The berries they produce attract many birds when they appear in the fall.
The arrowwood viburnum earned its name by growing straight wood that Native Americans used to make arrows for hunting. Along with being straight, it is also strong and flexible. The wood has also been used to make handles on tools.
It is native to the northeastern part of the US, growing along the east coast and west through Texas. As a native plant, it survives without supplemental watering after the first year. They are generally easier to grow and they also support our native wildlife, such as songbirds and butterflies.
