Description

The Norway maple is a great, fast growing shade tree that provides dense coverage. It can grow almost anywhere but prefers a rich well-drained soil. In the early spring it produces bright yellow-green flowers in flat clusters. They bloom from May to June. The fruit produced is the typical “whirlybird” seed. With the widest spread of all maple seeds, it grows in the shape of a recurve bow.  Native to Europe, this maple is one of the five non-native maples commonly grown here.  Fairs well against common maple pests. The wood from the Norway maple is hard and close grained. It makes great firewood.
