They can grow up to 10′ tall and are easy to spot as you travel through most of North America. Redosier is a large shrub with bright stems that are red in color. They are especially showy in the winter when snow here in Michigan provides the perfect contrast.

Blooming in the spring and early summer and producing berries that are loved by wildlife, it is an excellent shrub to plant. As with any other native, as long as they are planted in an appropriate place, care is super easy! Leaves are dark green and 2-5″ long, they turn shades of red and orange in the fall then fade to purple.  Flowering in the summer, they attractive clusters of white flowers that are loved by bees and are fragrant.  Following the flowers are white berries that mature to a gray color and are eaten by many species of birds.
